The Power of Sponsorship

“Therefore encourage one another

and build one another up,

just as you are doing.”

– 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Sponsoring a child is an incredibly powerful thing.

There is a special relationship between a sponsor and the child they support. They are given a place in the child’s life to encourage them and be a sense of stability.

Many of these children have never known what it is like for someone to care for them in the way sponsors have the opportunity to do. They are able to send letters, send gifts for things like birthdays, and they consistently support these children financially.

This undoubtedly changes these children’s lives.

“Two are better than one,

because they have a good reward for their toil.

For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow.”

– Ecclesiastes 4:9

In Ecclesiastes we see that two are better than one. There is a true sense of support and encouragement when someone else is there to pick you up if you fall.

For this reason, sponsors also have a very crucial role.

There is a sense of support, love, and hope that comes with knowing at least one other person is “in your corner.” A sponsor is the person in these children’s lives who consistently says they are seen and that they matter.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,

so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

– Romans 15:13
